JUNIOR ORDER OF MERIT

The Junior Order of Merit Competition came to a conclusion for 2017 with the results from the Junior Jamboree on Friday 27 October. Points are gained by competing and finishing high up the leaderboard in the Junior Open Competitions at Clubs throughout the Area during the season. This is a good way for boys and girls to experience playing on other courses and furthers their development.

JUNIOR ORDER OF MERIT

The final Junior competition of the year will be held at Southerness Golf Club on Friday 27th October. The South of Scotland junior order of merits are all still to play for and this last event will decide the winners.

The under 18 section is very close between the top three players.

MEETING WITH CLUBS RE SGL DRAFT STRATEGY

At The Executive Meeting on Tuesday 26 September it was agreed to have another meeting with the Clubs prior to the SGL Special General
Meeting on Saturday 2 December to ascertain their thoughts and voting intentions. The papers for the Special General Meeting must be
received by the stakeholders by Saturday 11 November and this gives us 3 weeks to hold the meeting.

2017 FINAL ORDER OF MERIT TABLE

The South Order of Merit came to an exciting conclusion at the final counting event of the season at Thornhill on Sunday 24 September. The intrigue was heightened in the Shamash trophy as three players were in contention,  David Brodie (Newton Stewart) in the driving seat with Michael Grunwell (D&G) 75 points behind and Chris Corbett (D&G) in third place a further 55 points adrift.

SHAMASH TROPHY 2017

A poor turnout of 19 players competed for the Shamash Trophy at Thornhill on Sunday 24 September 2017.The course was in immaculate condition on a day of perfect weather in the morning but the downpours kept on coming from those ever- present, heavily laden clouds in the afternoon.

SOTTISH JUNIOR TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

The South officials took a Development team of six boys, all under 16 years-of-age, to Glenbervie on Sunday 24 September to compete in the inaugural Scottish Junior Team Competition.

The format of the competition was 18 holes stableford between the winners of Junior Area leagues in Scotland and as South Area does not have a Junior League between all the Clubs we were permitted to enter a development team for experience.

SOUTH MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP 2017

On Sunday 17 September the semi-finals and final of the South Matchplay Championship took place at Stranraer Golf Club on a typical autumnal day with a slight breeze.

Both the semi-finals in the morning were very tight games with Danny McConnachie (D&C) beating Martin McNae (Lochmaben at the nineteenth and Chris Corbett (D&G) beating holder  Neil Hamilton (Powfoot) by one hole.
